Exam Pattern of IAS Mains

 



Thousands of students prepare for the UPSC examination every year, with the majority of them aspiring to be IAS officers. Becoming an IASOfficer is no easy task; you must overcome numerous obstacles both mentally and physically. Mentally preparing yourself to study the huge UPSC curriculum, as well as allocating time to each significant topic and scheduling time for rest, is the task of a well-organized person. You must complete nine papers in the Main Examination, two of which are qualifying and the remaining seven are not. Each paper is worth 250 points. It adds up to 1750 points. Mains examination:

Paper I : Language -300 Marks

The candidate may study any modern Indian language, but this is a qualifying examination.

Paper II : English - 300 Marks

This is a qualifying paper.

Paper III :  Essay - 250 Marks

It might be written in the candidate's preferred media or language.

Paper IV : General Studies I - 250 Marks

Indian heritage and culture, world history and geography, and social geography

Paper V : General Studies II - 250 Marks

Governance, Constitution, Politics, Social Justice, and International Relations are all topics that need to be addressed.

Paper VI : General Studies III - 250 Marks

Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management are all topics that need to be addressed.

Paper VII : General Studies IV - 250 Marks

Aptitude, Integrity, and Ethics

General Studies papers are worth 4X250=1000 points.

Paper VIII : Optional Subject Paper I - 250 Marks

Paper IX : Optional Subject Paper II - 250 Marks

The applicant is permitted to choose literature as an elective topic "without the requirement that it be completed at the graduate level."

 

The marks earned in English and Language will not be included to the final score for the written exam. As a result, the Mains exam will only be worth 1750 points.
