Can Doctors become an IAS?

If you are a person who got attracted to this article then you must be an aspiring doctor or someone who is very closely related to a doctor. Let me tell you something, there has been a total of 5doctors who have successfully cracked the IAS exam and now serving as an officer in different districts.

In India anything is possible. First of all, Not many doctors come into the field of Civil services or dreamt of becoming an IAS officer. The field of medicine is vast in its own way and completely different from civil services. To become a doctor you have to start preparing for its entrance from XIIth onwards itself. Every year around 8Lakh this much amount of Candidates apply for medical entrances, no matter whether it's NEET or AIIMS or JIPMER OR anything else.

Switching from Medical to Civil Services is a big task on its own. Considering the above scenario of 8 lakhs students Appearing for medical entrance, the ratio of medical students becoming an IAS still comes down to 16000:1 which means very low.

Even out of this, if we consider this scenario that every year out of the renowned medical Institute named AIIMS, 100 students are graduating, out of the 50 will be leaving for the USA, 15 will be applying for Civil Service Examination, 34-35 students will be applying for PG while the remaining will be doing some other courses. I will list out the reasons, why Doctors get attracted towards CSE Examination.

After completing graduation with a total of 5.5 years, The Doctors are asked to give the hardest exam in the world to get the postgraduate seat. Even if someone any candidate manages to get a seat, they have to again dedicate their 12-20 hours per day for over a time span of 3years. Even for the first 6 months, they have to work around 18-21 hours every day without any leave.

In this medical field, you have to keep yourself updated every moment, which means you have to keep studying and super specialization is a must. This becomes super difficult and painful considering the competitive environment.

Getting selected into a medical field is a matter of pride, but the amount of dedication and hard work you have to put in is incomparable. If you get selected in MBBS then with an internship, superspecialization, you have spent 13 years of your life and at that moment you are already in your thirties and still a student learning the basics.
